When I came to the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, I didn’t believe that what they said was true. I came to the 24 Hour Club with apprehension and I quickly found that I was surrounded by people just like me. I turned my will (Thoughts) and life (Actions) over to a power greater than myself, and I started trusting people in the program with multiple years. For me the 24 hour club was my sanctuary. I grew up thinking things had to be a certain way; I learned that my thoughts and actions have to be conducive to my higher powers will for me. How I discover that purpose in part was when I lived at the 24, sponsors said “trust GOD”, “clean house”, and “help others”, so I did. Today I still attend meetings, volunteer my time, and support the 24 Hour Club.

6 Ways You Can Help The D24HC Make Another 40 Years!

Hello Friend of the Dallas 24 Hour Club! Well, boy that last 40 years sure was easy! LOL But really, the D24HC takes a lot of volunteers to survive and thrive, in addition to our paid staff that keeps things running day to day.

I am writing to share some of the many service needs our organization has currently. This is a good list, but by all means not comprehensive, if you have something to offer and it is not listed here, please speak up and show up!

1. It goes without saying, but I will, outside attendance at D24HC Meetings & sponsorship

2. Fundraising from grass roots to grants to food donations

3. Chairman for The Friends of 24, our service organization

4. Restaurant General Manager to oversee and set direction and policy for the D24HC Cafe’

5. Board Members

6. Friends of 24 Meeting Coordinator

A Recipe for Thanksgiving at the 24 - 11/26/2009

Well Friends the Holiday Season is upon us and some extremely wonderful things occur at The Dallas 24 Hour Club for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Every year the D24HC expresses its gratitude to the community and sets an example for those early in sobriety with Thanksgiving and Christmas lunch to the residents of the house, visitors to the house and the community!

Basically we feed anyone and everyone that shows up and are known throughout the East Dallas & AA Community for doing so.

Thanksgiving is 1 week away and we want to invite everyone to come down for Thanksgiving or Service (plenty of opportunities to help out with Thanksgiving Lunch). There will be a meeting at Noon and then Thanksgiving afterward at approximately 1:15pm next Thursday 11/26/2009.

Please forward this email around, announce at your group and help spread the word.

We also have need for Thanksgiving food like:

1. 10 cakes

2. Bread/Rolls

3. Cranberry Sauce

4. Sweet Potatoes

5. Fresh Vegetables like corn & carrots

6. 6 Large Turkeys

7. 3 Large Hams

Meet The Staff: Verna (from 10/26/09 newsletter)

Verna is one of the benefits that cannot be measured from being in service. In my time in service to the D24HC I have come to know Verna and love her. She has really grown in her sobriety as well as service as the Women’s Director at the D24HC. Make sure and hunt her down and say hi. Here is a little bit of her story at the 24 in her own words:

Hello and Welcome to the NEW Dallas 24 Hour Club Website re-launch. The words new & improved cannot begin to explain this new website. In fact, the biggest improvement is that you are reading it now and know the Dallas 24 Hour Club even has a website.

Thanks so much for visiting the ‘Wish List’ for the Dallas 24 Hour Club! As a non-profit we rely upon the generosity of our supporters to give time, money and tangible goods. This list will change from time to time based upon the house needs, but there are some basic items that we are always in need of for our residents:
